I'm not the traditional pastor that you might expect to see. I didn't grow up in the church or give my life to Christ at age 5 or 12, I was called from the business world into the ministry in 1998, I owned a multi line insurance agency in New Orleans when I gave my life to Christ. I have attended two different bible colleges and ultimately would end up at New Orleans Baptist Theological seminary for most of my schooling. What I received from God via experience has been greater than all my classroom time combined. Through my years in ministry I have served as a church administrator, worked in children's ministry, was a youth pastor, developed small groups ministry, from organization to training, and development. I have served as an associate pastor at a medium sized church for the last 7 years, but God had another plan.
God called my wife Peggy and I away from where we were to start New Beginnings in June of 2010. In a very short period of time we began to hold bible studies and then started church services on July 17, 2010. God has certainly prepared me to take on this endeavor of starting a church, He has equipped me with great faith, a desire to walk in His will, and the knowledge to tackle such a huge task. If you like the idea of trailblazing or walking on a freshly cut one. Join us and become part of what God is doing in our area.
Besides God and my family, the two most important focuses of my life have been education and discipleship. From the time I received my most favorite Christmas present - a huge chalkboard - to today, I have always had a passion for teaching and guiding those around me. Throughout my life, this passion has been evident in the places that God has placed me and my husband. Reggie and I served as youth pastors at two local churches over several years, and God then lead me to work with teenagers as a high school teacher at Northlake Christian School eleven years ago. After eight years in the classroom, God called me out of the classroom to work as the full-time School Counselor allowing me a better opportunity to disciple and guide the students at NCS where I continue to serve. Then in 2010, when our close friends, Eddie and Peggy Swan, told us that God was calling them to plant a church in Covington, Reggie and I felt God leading us to help them with this process. Since the beginning, our entire family - including our three children - have served the body of New Beginnings Church in any way that we possibly could because we believe in the vision that God has given Pastor Eddie - to reach this community with the message of Jesus and to teach those we reach to be true disciples!
I obeyed God's call to youth ministry at New Beginnings Church after teaching and coaching for ten years and working in the public relations field. God has instilled in both me and my wife Beverly a love for young people and a passion for sharing Jesus with them. I believe Jr. and Sr. High students are some of His most effective kingdom warriors. The Lord impressed Romans 12:2 upon me in relation to the youth of New Beginnings Church. It was out of this verse that our name, Tribe122, was born. Our vision is simple: Tribe122 is a united group of transformed students who are disciples of Jesus. The tribe accepts all students the way God made them, and we will show others how to follow Jesus. As Pastor Eddie says: We don't just want them to know - we want them to grow!
I have come to think of my life as unfinished book. It began with me writing my own story and thinking that I had everything all figured out. I'll never forget the day I surrendered my life to the Lord and He began to write the pages of each chapter in my life's story. Every page of my story has been dedicated to God for His glory and He has been so faithful to me. Since I got saved over 30 years ago, God placed a love for children in my heart. It all began as a young teen working in Children's church. I didn't dream of going to college, but God was writing my story and attending Evangel College in Springfield Mo. was a chapter I will cherish forever. It was there that I decided to become an elementary teacher. My teaching chapter began in 1985 at my home church school where I first came to know the Lord. I was so excited and realized shortly after I began this chapter that the real student was me. I learned so much from positioning myself in a place where I had to lean on God to guide me in guiding little ones close to His heart. My chapters have included teaching 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 6th grades for 18 years. In between teaching, God blessed me with the opportunity to be home with my 3 children who are now between the ages of 18-23. Children's ministry has always been a part of my life whether I was teaching at a Christian school, leading Children's church, or sharing precious moments with my 3 kids. I am very excited about my new chapter here at New Beginnings Church as the Children's pastor. Psalm 25:4-5 says, "Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my Hope is in you all day long." How sweet to think that children will come to church and leave on the path God has for them with hope in their little hearts. That is my daily prayer.
